Makeover Case Study
For
people that love their neighborhood, but not necessarily their
house, a home makeover is the perfect solution.
In
this example, a single story house nestled on a beautifully wooded
lot was renovated, including the addition of second
story bedrooms without changing the horizontal character of the
original house.
The
front entry was moved from an awkward, dark recess (to the left side of
the front elevation), to a series of French doors, flooding the
interior with natural light and creating a layered transparency of
sight lines through the house to the courtyard beyond.
The existing low, flat ceiling of the living room was removed, to vault
the space under the original roof. Natural, rich materials of
wood, stone and tile were infused, then finished off with a new dining
table and chairs by Tadao Arimoto paired with a new chandelier
hand made to compliment the new home.
